THE AI ADVANTAGE - Issue No. 21
AI can make you look like a rockstar!
There's a particular kind of tired that shows up after a speaking event. Not the good tired you get from a long walk. The kind where your face hurts from smiling, your brain can’t formulate words, or tell what day it is. And you get home and realize the last water you drank was at nine in the morning.
I dropped my bag on my desk, dumped out a pile of business cards, and sat there looking at them. Handfuls of them. People I had real conversations with, people I promised to follow up with, people whose cards I just grabbed from a table knowing they would be lovely to connect with.
(If you have ever come home from an event, had a stack of cards but then felt too overwhelmed to REALLY do anything with them so they sat, (same).
That pile of cards is where this week's story ends. It starts a couple of weeks earlier, with us planning to walk on stage.
AI as your Speech writer
Claire and I sat over Zoom to discuss what our stage talk would be at this year's Stages and Pages event. Knowing it had to be about websites and we wanted to in claude a story but no idea where to start. We wanted it to be entertaining, cause websites can feel quite boring. We wanted it to be memorable. And we wanted it to really make an impact. So Claire said, I want it to be like one of those Ted Lasso monologue where he tells this story and you don’t really know why but then he relates it to the lesson he is trying to teach and you think it’s genius!
Feeling clueless about writing a Ted Lasso monologue we turned to Claude for help. We described the scene we had in our minds (where Ted takes on Rupert, Rebecca’s nasty Ex in a dart game to win Rebecca her team) and asked Claude to come up with a Ted Lasso worthy talk but make it based on our topic and chickens.
It spit something out that was…fine. Fine the way a stock photo is fine. But we really wanted something a LOT better. So it wasn’t a slam dunk but it started getting our wheels turning. We put together a concept and a few days later it just clicked for our three talking points on how to relate my Chicken life and first coop to Websites and the mistakes most owners make the first time around and how to fix them so it works FOR you while you sleep.
AI as your speaking coach
Claire worked with Clude to make her talk concise which was great but then in an interaction with Claude, it told her to record herself doing the speech and upload it. WAIT WHAT? You can do that? Genius. It listened to her cadence and gave feedback. Corrected a misspoken detail and gave her confidence to keep practicing it as she was and CRUSH the stage (which she did!) Frist On stage speaking gig for Claire, CHECK.
Meanwhile I was lucky enough to Sit on Zoom at the end of a private coaching session with one of our clients who is a communications coach and get real feedback from a human. She gave me feedback on my body language, what I was doing with my hands, and commented on how she liked that we told a story first then only used three points to make our ONE point. Something I am not sure AI would have called out.
We still think humans are the best! But they also can cost a lot and if you have to do with what you got, AI CAN be super helpful.
People LOVED the talk and continued to mention the chicken story the rest of the event.
AI as your organizer
Day two was a full day of workshops, where we sat down with people in small groups 2-5 and actually worked on their website instead of talking about websites.
One of the women we worked with has written 66 books. YES, Sixty-six. Her site listed every one of them, which sounds like the right thing to do until you're a reader standing in front of a wall of 66 titles trying to figure out which one is for your nine-year-old. She said she really only sold books at her book signings but would like to have people who bought one, buy more.
I knew that part of the problem no one would buy them online is because there was very little order to the books.
If she categorized them, but the books in a series in order, It would be SUPER easy for people to find something else they would like or the next book in the series.
But how do I really help her organize 66 books in 90 minutes.
That’s when I asked her if she ever used AI. I followed up with, do I have your permission to use AI today to help us get a LOT done in a little time?
I was floored by how much it did. It pulled every amazon link listed to her website. Pulled the titles, page numbers, reading level, series and based on some of my instructions of what we wanted the site to be able to do (categorise the books into categories, series together, etc).
Within the hour it had created a detailed spreadsheet that she could adjust with category columns, titles, page number, reading levels, prices and more.
Then it created a mock up of how the filter could work. Did it look beautiful? Not version 1. Did it look like AI made it? YES, the first time. But it was a functioning model to show and play as a user could experience it if it were restructured and organized with a filter. With a few design tweaks and asking it to upload the cover images of the books it looked SOOO much better.
See What it made HERE.
There is no version of that afternoon where we hand-sort 66 titles into categories and age ranges and still have time to show her what the finished thing could look like. We got it done inside the session. She walked out with her first step (categorizing and organizing the books) already done and a vision for what it could be.
AI as your Assistant
On Monday after the event I sat at my desk pulling stacks of business cards out of my purse. Some people I had met. Others I hadn’t gotten a chance to talk to but I wanted to connect with everyone. And I knew that if I didn’t take action right away I would forget faces with names or details about when we met, what we talked about etc so I wanted to do it straight away but also had a FULL to-do list that day.
So I pulled out all the cards, turned on wisprflow and went through card by card just speaking what I remembered about them, who they were, how I wanted to connect, and what about. Then I took a picture of all the cards laid out and it made me a spreadsheet with ALL the details and tasks for follow up.
There have been so many times I have gone to networking events and had a BUNCH of cards that I did NOTHING with.
Is it really worth it if you show up, say hi, and never reach back out. Spoiler alert, it’s not well maybe a little but the ROI won’t be there. And you can’t rely on THEM to connect with you. You have to do it.
Embracing The Imperfections Of You
One more thing that may be a little off topic but is super important. When we were on the panel, AI came up. And while it is lovely I mentioned that when it comes to things like social media and your presence online people LOVE the imperfect you. AI tends to try and be perfect. And so with all the perfection people are craving imperfection. So lean into the not so polished content. The, this is the real me NOT AI version of you when you showup online on social media.
Put up the behind-the-scenes shot instead of waiting around for the good one. Say the thing in your own slightly weird phrasing instead of running it through three rounds of smoothing until it sounds like everyone else on the internet.
You Can Try This Too
When it comes to AI, think about the way you normally do things, how things fall through the cracks or the moments you say, I wish I had someone to help me do X and then see if AI can help you! If you don’t know, open up a chat and ASK IT! It will tell you if and how it can help.
And if you want to be a part of a SMALL intimate community of women who meet over Zoom two times a month to talk about our businesses, get advice from Claire and I, leave with actionable steps and new ideas on how to use AI, Join our Scale to 6 Coaching community. It’s for those who don’t want to work in a vacuum, want real human connection, get tips and brainstorm with others on their business, get expert advice, and leave with clarity on what to do next.
